In Loving Memory of
Gwendolyn Marie Francis
(Maiden: Weaver)

of Grande Prairie, Alberta
February 12, 1962 - June 25, 2021

Gwendolyn “Wendy” Marie Francis, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, June 25, 2021, at the age of 59 years.

Wendy was born to Joseph and Rita Weaver on February 12, 1962, in Antigonish, NS. As a child, she spent her summers on Cape Breton Island, NS, where she built lasting memories with her siblings and cousins.

Growing up in a military family allowed Wendy to experience life in various parts of Canada. She later settled in Bear River, NS, where she would raise her two daughters.

Wendy had a love of animals and a special soft spot for her daughters’ pets. She had a talent for cooking and especially enjoyed hosting dinner parties for family and friends on the East Coast. She had an unbreakable bond with her siblings, whom she always considered to be her best friends. However, that did not stop them from having a rival cook-off, or two. Wendy also had a special bond with her sister-in-law Judy, whose friendship she deeply cherished for over 20 years.

In 2009, Wendy made the life-changing decision to move to Grande Prairie, AB. It was there that she found a true passion in her career as a Camp Attendant in the oil and gas industry. She gained newfound confidence in her life on the West Coast and made lasting friendships.

Despite declining health in the last two years, Wendy faced every new obstacle with unimaginable strength and dignity. She will forever serve as an inspiration to all those who knew her. Wendy’s daughters are eternally grateful to her Grande Prairie “Angels”, who dedicated so much of themselves to their mother’s health, happiness, and wellbeing.

Wendy will be forever missed by her daughters: Melissa Weaver-O’Brien (Nathan Lefebvre) of Montreal, QC, and Raylene (Todd) Enderud of Calgary, AB; siblings: Susan Weaver (Gary Owen) and Scott Weaver (Mira Flor) of Bear River, NS, and Blair Weaver (Judy) of Grande Prairie, AB; many nieces and nephews; and her Cape Breton and Grande Prairie families.

Wendy was predeceased by her beloved son Kyle Weaver-O’Brien, sister Linda Weaver, and her parents Joseph and Rita Weaver.

Cremation has taken place. As per Wendy’s wishes, there will be no funeral service.

Interment will be held in the family plot at the Stella Maris Catholic Parish Church in Creignish, NS, at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to The Canadian Cancer Society (55 St Clair Avenue West, Suite 500, Toronto, ON, M4V 2Y7, https://www.cancer.ca/).
