Alvin John Rode

of Grande Prairie, Alberta
November 30, 1933 - July 19, 2021

Alvin John Rode, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, formerly of Sexsmith, AB, passed away on Monday, July 19, 2021, in Grande Prairie, at the age of 87 years.

Alvin was born November 30, 1933, in a little house that belonged to the Harding family, located near Sexsmith. Alvin was raised in the Webster and North Kleskun area. He attended school at Webster trail which was 3.5 miles from home, “uphill both ways”.

Alvin’s first paying job was pitching bundles on his Dad’s threshing outfit. Alvin was also employed by Greyhound, Canadian Coachways, and Alberta Wheat Pool, before becoming a full-time farmer.

Alvin married his school-days sweetheart, Alice Anette Huber on May 8, 1959. Alvin and Alice moved to Wanham, AB for 7 years. In 1972, they finally settled with their 5 children in North Kleskun on the Huber family farm.

Alvin was involved in many community clubs and associations over the years including Secretary/Treasurer of Teepee Creek Stampede, longtime board member of the North Kleskun Community Hall, Treasurer/Elder of Emmaus Lutheran Church.

He had a passion for playing cards and lawn bowling with his family and all his friends at the Senior Centers. Alvin also enjoyed camping trips with friends and family. He loved to spend time with all his family and was so proud of his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids.

Alvin will be sadly missed by his wife Alice; children: Kevin (Chris), Joey (Gina), Jamie, Verna (Geoff), and Lynnell; grandchildren: Colton (Raine), Leigha (Andrew), Brandon (Ginger), Taylor (Laura), Lacy (Tyson), and Carter (Miranda); great-grandchildren: Yardley, Syver, Saylor, Ole, Walker, Eva, Liam, Levi, Madelynn, Rhody, and McCoy; sister Dorothy Porier; as well as many extended family members, nieces, and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents William and Mary; brothers: Ted, Leonard, Arnold, and Edward; and sisters: Clara, Gertrude, and Theresa.

A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, August 5, 2021, at 1:00pm, at Emmaus Lutheran Church in North Kleskun.
