Alan Dwight Turner, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2022, in Grande Prairie, at the age of 67 years.

Alan was born on May 17, 1954, in Ipswich, Massachusetts to Alan and Maxine Turner. He was the oldest of five children.

He had a tremendous devotion to family which he carried throughout all the years of his life. He was an adventurer and loved to travel. He traveled throughout the USA in his youth and visited many interesting parts of the world during his service in the US Navy as an electronics specialist (1972-1976). He attended Beverly High School and graduated from Essex Technical Vocational in 1972. He had an insatiable interest in seeing new places and learning new things. He developed a successful career as an IT specialist and continued in his field obtaining a master's degree in cyber security with honours from the University of Maryland. His learning didn’t stop there; learning never ended for Alan.

He was very interested in photography and had a very good eye for catching interesting angles and perspectives. He loved to collect all sorts of interesting knives and was interested in the history and art of knife making. He enjoyed spending time and going on adventures with beloved family dogs Shiloh, Samson, and Asa.

Most important to Alan was his personal relationship with Jesus Christ his Lord and Saviour.  This was followed in importance by his love and devotion to family. He was a devoted father and husband and he cherished those roles. He demonstrated love and devotion to family. He was a protector, provider, teacher, and encourager.

He is survived by and sadly missed by his wife Debra Beauchamp Turner; daughters Jennifer Turner, and Jessica Turner; beloved grandchildren: Ashlee, Adreana, Sarah, and Nicholas; all of whom are from Beverly, Massachusetts; his parents Alan and Maxine of Brodhead, Wisconsin; Sandra Diehl (Ralph) of Winchendon, MA; Matt (Iris) of Germany; Kim Donovan of New Hampshire; Mary Turner of Nebraska; as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews. Alan is beloved and missed by family and friends in his adopted city of Grande Prairie, and also became a proud Canadian citizen in 2018.

Alan was predeceased by his paternal grandparents Leon and Eva Turner of Ipswich, MA; Dwight and Charlene Hageman of Wisconsin; daughter Emily Turner; and stepdaughter Farrah Hachey to whom he was a supportive and loving stepfather.

Alan had a heart for the broken and lost. He was especially compassionate to the homeless and a great supporter of US veterans and Gospel for Asia.

A private viewing was held on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at Essential Cremations.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2022, at 2:00 pm, at People’s Church in Grande Prairie (11850 108 St.).
