In Loving Memory of
Kathryn Gudger

of Peace River, AB
February 1, 2003 - July 17, 2022

Kathryn “Ashe” Elizabeth Gudger, resident of Peace River, AB, formerly of Ottawa, ON, passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2022, in Grande Prairie Regional Hospital, at the age of 19 years.

Kathryn was born in Gatineau, QC, on February 1, 2003, and later moved to Ottawa, ON, in 2012.

Among Kathryn’s greatest passions were people and video games. While she considered herself to be shy, she made friends easily once the initial ice was broken, especially online. Kathryn was an avid online gamer who loved playing with her friends through the night into the wee hours of the morning. Gaming with her friends is when her boisterous personality and loud, infectious laugh really shone through.

While she loved to laugh, Kathryn was a true jokester who also enjoyed entertaining others with her jokes, pranks, and performances. Kathryn was a talented singer, dancer, artist, and writer. The walls of her bedroom were covered in her drawings of anime characters through whom she often expressed her own feelings. Her artistic talents also came through in the kitchen as she enjoyed baking and cooking with her mom, and decorating holiday cookies with her dad.

Kathryn cared for animals of all kinds and loved visiting Grampie’s farm to spend time with the cows, chickens, and pigs. Her own pets, including her dog Chase, bird Bella, and various tropical fish were a source of comfort to her in difficult times.

She had an adventurous spirit and loved roller coasters, water parks, indoor rock climbing, and camping. She was the official s’mores maker on our family camping trips.

Music was always an important part of Kathryn’s life and she was never without it. Her tastes were varied and included everything from favorites ‘Panic! at the Disco’ and ‘Fall Out Boy’ to rock to emo, through to Diana Krall’s jazz, and even classical. In her early teens, she combined her love of music and her artistic talents by creating music videos for her YouTube channel.

A kind and compassionate person who loved helping others, Kathryn often showed others a strength and courage that she herself couldn’t always see. She made a true and profound impact on everyone who had the opportunity to know her.

She will be sadly missed by her parents Brian and Belinda; grandfather Carl “Grampie” Corkum; uncles and aunts: Paul Corkum, Richard Gudger, Cathie Gudger, Marion “Neannie” Corkum, and Joyce Leary; Cousins: Caleigh Gudger and Jeffrey Croft; boyfriend and family: Carlen Mills-Buettner, Kelly Wheeler and Duane Johnson.

Kathryn was predeceased by her grandfather Phil “Papa” Gudger, grandmother Avis Gudger, grandmother “Nannie” Nel Gudger, and grandmother Sylvia “Grandma” Corkum.

A private memorial will be held by the immediate family.

The family wishes to express our gratitude to the ICU team at Grande Prairie Regional Hospital for the compassionate care they provided to Kathryn. We further want to thank Dr. Jonathan Ng for his exceptional support of our family these past several years.
