In Loving Memory of
Irene Dechant

of Manning, Alberta
February 6, 1937 - February 20, 2023

Irene Agnes Dechant, resident of Manning, AB formerly of Hawk Hills, AB passed away peacefully Monday, February 20, 2023, at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital.

Irene was born at home in Friedenstal, AB, on February 6, 1937. Grade one was taken at St Augustine Mission where she started taking piano lessons, which she did all through her school years.  During her high school years, she was the organist for the St Boniface Church Choir. Irene married Hubert Dechant July 2, 1957, and they moved to North Star, AB.  In 1965, they moved to Hawk Hills, where they lived until 1993, when they moved to Manning.

Irene was instrumental in getting Guitar Camp started with Sister Anita Hartman. The first camps were held in Hawk Hills, Manning, then later in Friedenstal, and now Hotchkiss. Her passions were playing and teaching guitar; she always had a crochet hook in hand making potholders and creating angels, and a love for painting and gardening!

Irene is survived by her husband of 65 years Hubert; five children: Louise (Terry) Ungarian, Rod (Cori), Vince, Louella (Dwaine) Arnason, and Patricia (Michael); nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren; as well as siblings: Ed (Elizabeth), Sister Evelyn SP, Jim (Eileen), Marie (Alex) Tauber, and William.

Irene is predeceased by her beloved parents, George, and Margaret (nee: Walisser) Dechant, and dear niece Cathy Dechant.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Donations in Irene’s honour may be made to Manning Palliative Care Society, (Box 1260 Manning, AB T0H 2M0).
