In Loving Memory of
Lillian Marie Sexton
(Maiden: Whiteway)
of Grande Prairie, Alberta
September 13, 1952 - October 31, 2023
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lillian Sexton after a challenging battle with dementia. Lill’s journey in this world ended peacefully on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at the age of 71 years.
Born September 13, 1952, to John and Maude Whiteway of Grandois, NL, Lill married Ed in 1975, and they made a life together. She was a loving and devoted mom to her children: Cora (Jeff), Karen (Doug), and Bobby (Heather). Her adoration for her grandchildren was evident, as she helped with childcare when they were little and spoiled them with too much chocolate and candy. She was a proud Nan to Sydney, Declan, Cameron, Addison, Jackson, Emerson, Eva, and Anna.
Lill was a precious member of the Whiteway family and her absence leaves a void felt by her siblings: Anne (Wayne), Gord (Laverne), Rose (Kev), Ken (Regina), Daphne (Dwayne), Sharon (Roy), and sister-in-law Jackie (Calvin). Lill will be missed by her extended Sexton family in Goose Cove, NL, as well as an abundance of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends from Grandois, Croque, Main Brook, St. John’s, and Grande Prairie.
We take comfort in picturing the warm smiles and open arms of those who have passed before her, including her parents Maude (2006) and Jack (2012) Whiteway, her brothers Kevin (2002) and Ed (2022), and her sisters Phyllis (2019), and Joan (2022).
Lill, who took great pride in her Newfoundland roots, cherished the comfort of wood heat, was skilled at knitting socks and gloves, and found joy in trouting and berry picking. Her pastimes included watching hockey, solving crossword puzzles, playing bingo, completing jigsaw puzzles, and crafting with plastic canvas, and guaranteed she had some Juicy Fruit gum handy. She baked the most delicious pork chops and onions, made yummy rocky road cookies, and enjoyed listening to music. Her favourite song was “The Ballad of Michael Collins”.
It is anticipated that family and friends from far and wide will be able to gather next summer for a celebration of life and Lill’s cremated remains will be laid to rest alongside her mom and dad.
Lill was a delightful mix of sweetness and mischief. She gifted us with unforgettable moments, and her memory will bring a smile to our faces.
