In Loving Memory of
Lorraine Putio
(Maiden: Olsen)
of Grande Prairie, Alberta
May 6, 1940 - December 30, 2023
It is with great sorrow we announce that our sweet little Mom, Lorraine Putio, has left us and gone to heaven on Saturday, December 30, 2023. However, after a terrible fall, an additional stroke and a severe brain bleed, we feel she is in a better place.
Mom was born on May 6, 1940, and grew up with her parents, Bertha and George Olsen, her sister, Shirley, and brother, Glenn. They farmed and lived in Wanham, AB. Mom married our dad, Taras Putio in 1958 and they too went on to farm in the area and raise the three of us: my brother, Kevin, my sister, Leanne, and me, Terry. Mom loved us, and our partners too. She also loved to work, whether it was in her garden, yard, community, with her Kindergarten class, or at the hospital gift shop.
Mom loved to learn. She took many courses over the years. She completed her kindergarten teaching degree, many educational reading courses, and several naturopathic certifications.
Mom loved a good pedicure, a glass of wine and Brad Gushue (“My Brad”, as she referred to him). She also loved Al, and so did we. Al Martin came into Mom’s life when she moved to Grande Prairie. She met him at the Legion with her good friend, Amy, and invited him to coffee. She said she needed to “snap him up” before anyone else did. Mom loved Al, and Al was the greatest partner. They had many fun times together. They even went white water rafting (Mom’s idea), and Mom couldn’t swim.
Mom’s greatest love was her grandchildren. She was so deeply proud of their successes, their loving partners, their babies, and the lives they were creating for themselves. She loved cooking up batches of playdough, vegetables and dip and homemade bread. Mom’s happiest days were when she was with them.
Mom’s wishes were to not have a funeral celebration. Instead, Mom would like you to gather with your loved ones to reminisce, to share a glass of wine, and to enjoy your life.
